Australian Refugee Humanitarian Visas

For many years, Australia has set a number of visas under the Refugee and Humanitarian program to resettle people for humanitarian reasons (offshore resettlement) and for grants of asylum in Australia (onshore protection).

Onshore Protection Visas (subclass 866)

The onshore component of the program is for asylum seekers who apply for refugee status after arriving in Australia. This visa allows an individual to stay in Australia on a permanent basis and is only applicable for those applicants who are refugees or family members of the refugee as per the definition of refugee convention or meet the Complementary Protection criteria in the Australian migration act 1958.
